Boeing Delivers Proposal for Potential Black Hawk Successor DEFIANT X
Sikorsky-Boeing on Tuesday delivered a proposal to the US Army for the DEFIANT X project, which will be part of the army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program.
Paul Lemmo, president, Sikorsky, and Mark Cherry, vice president and general manager for Boeing-Vertical Lift, issued a statement announcing the delivery of the DEFIANT X proposal to the army.
The executives assured that DEFIANT “delivers speed where it matters,” as well as “survivability, unsurpassed power, maneuverability, superior handling in any environment and lower lifecycle costs” while staying true to the roots of what made the Black Hawk iconic to the force.
The DEFIANT X
In January, Boeing submitted the concept for DEFIANT X, which was then a contender to Bell’s V-280 Valor advanced tiltrotor.
The FLRAA competition aimed to find a capable replacement for the old, yet still iconic Black Hawk helicopter.
Lockheed Martin, the parent firm of Sikorsky, described the concept for DEFIANT X as “the fastest, most maneuverable, and most survivable assault helicopter in history.”
Steve Parker, vice president and general manager of Boeing Vertical Lift said that the concept for DEFIANT X is for it to be built “for a modernized Army that requires expanded reach, survivability, and lethality.”
“This weapon system will give Soldiers unequaled technological advantage and connectivity over adversaries in a multi-domain battlespace,” Parker said.
